The Philadelphia Phillies have made a decision on first baseman Darick Hall on Monday.

Hall had been working his way back from a thumb sprain injury he sustained earlier in the season.

During their off day on Monday, and ahead of their series with the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies recalled Hall from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and reinstated him from the 60-day injured list the club announced.

Hall was then optioned to Lehigh Valley.

In a corresponding move to make room for Hall on the 40-man roster, outfielder Dalton Guthrie was designated for assignment.

The move is unsurprising as manager Rob Thompson has said that Hall would always have to prove himself in Triple-A prior to getting another shot in the Big Leagues.

Kody Clemens and Alec Bohm have held down the fort well at first base in Rhys Hoskins and Hall's absences. Bryce Harper is also slated to play first base at some point in the near future.

However, if Hall can be productive in Triple-A, he may force the Phillies' hand.

Regardless, he is an excellent depth option if Philadelphia runs into an issue at the position.
