Philadelphia Phillies Minors Manager Throws Punch at Yankees Coach
Some high drama unfolded over the weekend down in Clearwater, Fl. for the Philadelphia Phillies. Single-A Clearwater Threshers manager Marty Malloy got upset by a hit-by-pitch and threw a punch at Tampa Tarpons pitching coach Gerardo Casadiego.
Welcome to the minor leagues where things like this are okay?
The Tarpons hitting coach Rick Guarno was also tackled to the ground after his colleague was assaulted. He is apparently okay after trying to defend his friend's safety.
So this is one of the most absurd things to watch. The game results do not matter in the minor leagues. The hit-by-pitch was inadvertant. And if your a manager for Single-A affiliate, you have to be aware that things like this happen.
It's development.
In fact, it's worrisome when a manager who has this little control over his temper decides he is going to assault an opposing manager.
Casadiego did point at Malloy from a few inches away, but to punch the man for it? Please. It's a disgrace to the game of baseball and it's a disgrace to the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Imagine if something like this happened to any employee in any workspace in the United States?
But hey, we will probably just chalk this up to "baseball" and Malloy will continue to shape and mold the young players down in Clearwater.
