The Philadelphia Phillies have put pitcher Ranger Suárez on the injured list with a right hamstring strain, per the team.

The Phillies revealed on Friday that they were scratching Suárez from his scheduled start on Sunday due to the injury but were unsure if he would need an IL stint or not. Zach Wheeler will take his spot in the rotation.

The designation is retroactive to Friday and Suárez will be on the 15-day injured list.

To bolster their depth on the pitching staff, the Phillies recalled right-handed pitcher Andrew Bellatti from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Suárez (2-6, 3.88) was supposed to be the starter in the MLB Little League Classic at Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa., as part of the Little League World Series.

He was coming off a loss to Minnesota in his last start last Sunday, as he gave up six hits and two earned runs in 6.1 innings. He struck out eight and walked three.

Suárez is 0-3 in his last seven starts with a 4.17 ERA, as he’s struck out 34 and walked 17 in 41 innings.

Bellatti (1-0, 5.06) has made 19 appearances out of the bullpen for the Phillies this season, with 17 strikeouts and 10 walks. He last appeared with the Phillies on July 21 against Cleveland.

The Phillies are set to face the Washington Nationals on Saturday and Sunday.
