The Philadelphia Phillies looked completely flat in a 13-0 shutout loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.

One day later, they resembled the 1927 New York Yankees.

Truthfully, the Phillies will fall somewhere in the middle and that will be good enough to win a whole lot of games this season.

The Phillies can take solace in the fact that they were able to quickly bounce back in a 14-3 victory over the Reds on Sunday.

Philadelphia sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored nine runs. Bryson Stott led off with a home run to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. Willie Puddin’ Head Jones started the 1950 season with a 16-game hitting streak.

The Phillies ripped eight hits in the first inning and finished with a season-best 23. All nine starters had at least one hit by the third inning.

Without Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins, the Phillies still boast a potent lineup.

Even though the 13-0 loss looked really bad, it was way too early to panic about the offense.

"Like we've been saying, with the lineup we have," Stott said, "it was just a matter of time before one of these games happens. It was fun."

Brandon Marsh had four hits while Stott, Trea Turner and Alec Bohm added three hits apiece.

"It's really fun," Stott said. "Such a fun group to be part of. The veterans are the veterans. The amount of fun they have … everyone clicks together. Any time you score nine runs in the first inning of a Major League game, it's always a good sign."

Even Jake Cave cleared the bases with a double. He entered the gme 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Hitting is contagious. That was obvious on Sunday.

"Everybody feels like they're in the game," manager Rob Thomson said. "It's very positive."

The key now is to carry this over into the series against the Chicago White Sox. If the Phillies get stymied in one game, they must come back quickly the next day ready to hit.

There is a plethora of offensive talent on this team top to bottom. When Harper returns, it will be even better.
