Philadelphia Phillies Opening Day Roster Finalized, Kingery Reassigned
The Philadelphia Phillies finalized their 26-man roster on Monday.
Jake Cave and Dalton Guthrie got the team’s final two bench positions unless a deal is made before Opening Day on Thursday.
Kody Clemens has been optioned and feel-good story Scott Kingery has been reassigned to minor league camp.
In addition, the Phillies optioned pitchers Michael Plassmeyer, Luis Ortiz and Erich Uelmen, likely placing Yunior Marte and Andrew Vasquez in the bullpen.
Vasquez probably received the last bullpen job with Ranger Suarez opening the season on the injured list and Matt Strahm moving up to become the fifth starter.
The 26-man roster is always fluid and another injury or two could shake things up even further. That could pave the way for a Kingery return who seemed so close to making the club out of camp.
Philadelphia will open up their 2023 MLB season against the Texas Rangers on March 30.
