Philadelphia Phillies Seen as Perfect Match for Angels Slugger at Trade Deadline
Welcome to July in baseball where it's another day and another rumor.
The Philadelphia Phillies are known to be on the hunt for a corner outfield bat, some rotation help and potentially even a corner infielder.
With that in mind, MLB.com came up with some matches for contenders and potential players they could pursue.
The Phillies were found to be a great match for Los Angeles Angels slugger Hunter Renfroe.
The reasoning behind the move? Well, there wasn't really one given. But considering Renfroe is slashing .246/.298/.443 with a perfectly average 100 OPS+, it remains hard to see how Renfroe would be an upgrade especially given his -6 DRS in right field this season.
That -6 DRS is better than Kyle Schwarber's this season, but it's still not even average fielding at the position. Renfroe is a perfectly average bat at the plate.
All that to say, the fit doesn't make much sense from an 'upgrade' standpoint, but if Renfroe comes with a reasonable price tag, he could be plugged in at left field to allow Schwarber to DH when Bryce Harper is manning first.
It'll be an interesting deadline, but Philadelphia may not want to invest in another Dh-type of player.
