Philadelphia Phillies Pitching Suffers Another Massive Blow
The Philadelphia Phillies pitching staff has taken another blow.
It comes at a time when the Phillies are starting to find their groove and make gains in the postseason race.
Philadelphia has placed relief pitcher Jose Alvarado on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation according to the team. It has been backdated to July 7.
Alvarado has been especially productive this season posting a 1.38 ERA in 26.0 innings pitched. Losing the high-leverage man will be a massive blow for Philadelphia who has relied on his backend presence heavily.
Luckily, it comes as the MLB All-Star break approaches which should give the Phillies extra time to figure out the extent of the injury. Of course, any elbow injury gives pause for concern.
In a corresponding move the Phillies called up Andrew Bellatti from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Alvarado's place.
We will keep you updated as the extent of Alvarado's injury becomes more clear.
