The bullpen of the Philadelphia Phillies just got some good news.

President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement that left-hander José Alvarado is recalled from Double-A Reading.

He was reinstated from the 15-day injured list after dealing with left elbow inflammation.

Alvardo made two rehab appearances pitching two innings between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Reading.

Prior to his stay on the IL, Alvardo had 12 scoreless appearances out of 14 and converted five of his seven save opportunities. From September 2022 to April 2023, the 28-year-old struck out multiple batters in 14 consecutive games.

To make room for Alvarado, right-handed pitcher Connor Brogdon was optioned down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. So far in 2023, Brogdon has pitched 29 innings, second-most among Phillies relievers.

In his 27 appearances, Brogdon is 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. Brogdon gave up two earned runs in one inning of work in his most recent appearance out of the Phillies' bullpen.
