Philadelphia Phillies Should Pursue All-Star Pitcher at Trade Deadline

The Philadelphia Phillies could use some extra rotation help, one Chicago White Sox starter could be the answer.

The Philadelphia Phillies are back on track as the MLB All-Star break is in full swing. A month of good baseball has put the Phillies right back in the mix for a postseason spot.

As the MLB draft and All-Star game are put behind us, all eyes will be on the trade deadline.

Philadelphia could use another starter as they prepare for the stretch run and the postseason. Top prospect Andrew Painter was slated to be the fifth starter in spring training, but an elbow injury has kept him from taking the mound.

Last week Painter experienced a setback with the same elbow, so he will likely see very little time, if any, on the mound this season.

That could pave the way for the Phillies to add a starter like Chicago White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn.

Lynn is a veteran that can provide meaningful innings, despite his 6.03 ERA this season.

With his age and current performance on a woefully poor White Sox squad, Lynn will come at a cheaper price tag than his teammates or other top pitching options such as Marcus Stroman.

It would be a move similar to when the Phillies acquired Noah Syndergaard last season at the deadline. Except Lynn is more established at the Big League level.

It makes sense for all parties involved.
