Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins will have surgery on his left anterior cruciate ligament Thursday in Fort Worth, Tex., the team announced Tuesday.

Dr. Steve Singleton will perform the reconstructive procedure and Hoskins is expected to miss the entire 2023 MLB season.

Ironically, the Phillies will be featured on Opening Day not far away against the Texas Rangers in Arlington.

Hoskins sustained the non-contact injury in the second inning of last Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Detroit Tigers.

Hoskins is a free agent after the season and questions about his future with club continue to linger. Those questions, and any potential answers, are now on the back burner as Hoskins will focus on his recovery as he works his way back onto a baseball field.

Stay tuned here for any further updates on Hoskins' recovery and potential timeline for return.
