Philadelphia Phillies Tease New Batting Order for 2023 Season

The Philadelphia Phillies have revealed who they plan on having bat leadoff during the 2023 MLB season.

Trea Turner is expected to lead off this season with Kyle Schwarber hitting second for the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Schwarber was moved into the leadoff role last season out of necessity since the Phillies didn’t have a true No. 1 hitter.

Schwarber wound up hitting a National League-leading 46 home runs and carried the Phillies for long stretches while Bryce Harper was out with a fractured left hand.

The Phillies signed Turner to an 11-year, $300 million deal and he hit .298 with 21 home runs and 100 RBI last season for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In eight career seasons with the Washington Nationals and Dodgers, Turner owns a career on-base percentage of .355.

Turner is a threat on the base paths with his elite speed. This season will see the introduction of larger bases, which should give Turner even more opportunity to swipe bags.

A prototypical leadoff hitter, Turner's on-base and elite stealing abilities will give Schwarber more RBI opportunities and should lead to an increase in runs production.
