Phillies Make Surprise Roster Move Ahead of Giants Matchup

The Philadelphia Phillies sent a faltering Bailey Falter down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley ahead of their second game against the San Francisco Giants.

Changes are coming for the Philadelphia Phillies pitching rotation. 

The club optioned left-hander Bailey Falter was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Right-hander Erich Uelmen was recalled to take his place on the 26-man roster. 

The 26-year-old lefty has not had an easy time in the rotation. In his last three starts, he holds an ERA of a whopping 6.57. 

In Monday's 6-3 loss to the Giants, he allowed eight hits and six unearned runs over 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Falter won the fifth spot in the rotation after Andrew Painter suffered a UCL sprain during spring training. But with an overall record of 0-7 and a 5.13 ERA over those starts, he wasn't able to hold up to the task. 

He also held the not-so-great title of being tied for the major league lead in losses.

The question now will be is Uelmen going to be reliable? Or will it just be in Philadelphia's best interest to have a bullpen game every five days?
