Phillies One of Nine Teams Getting City Connect Uniform in 2024
The Philadelphia Phillies will finally be getting a City Connect uniform in 2024, according to MLB. They are one of nine teams getting them this season, which includes the Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Toronto Blue Jays.
In each of the last few seasons, there have been a number of teams who have gotten City Connect uniforms, which was started in 2021 by Nike. Each of the nine teams will have uniforms with specific designs that align with the city or some historical images in and around the uniforms.
It wouldn't be surprising if the Phillies' City Connect uniforms had something to do with the Liberty Bell, or some sort of combination between the Liberty Bell and and the city's infamous cheesesteak. Some historical moments that could bring the fanbase together might also be included.
There have been some memorable City Connect uniforms in the past, namely the Boston Red Sox who unveiled a bright yellow jersey. With the jersey landscape constantly changing, they could eventually put those uniforms on the backburner and create a whole new design in the future.
The idea behind these jerseys are to celebrate the city in which these teams play.
Sometimes, it's hard to appease a fanbase when doing something new, especially when the uniforms are supposed to represent things about their city.
No matter if the implementation of these City Connect uniforms are liked or not, it's a new look for the league and brings more attention to significant events that have happened in each city.
