Updates On Injured Philadelphia Phillies Pitchers As Staff Struggles

The Philadelphia Phillies have had struggles with their pitching staff to start the season. What is the status on their injured pitchers?

It’s no secret that the Philadelphia Phillies’ pitching has been inconsistent through nine games.

Taijuan Walker walked five batters in Sunday’s 6-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Craig Kimbrel allowed one earned run and had his ERA move to 13.50.

Seranthony Dominguez gave up three earned runs in one inning and saw his ERA balloon to 15.75.

Aaron Nola did not fare well on Opening Day.

Jose Alvarado has been scintillating thus far, but the Phillies’ pitching as a whole has been subpar.

There will be help on the way, though.

Ranger Suarez (left elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday. Suarez is on the 15-day injured list and is expected to be out for at least one month.

Cristopher Sanchez (left triceps), also on the 15-day injured list, is expected to toss three innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

Nick Nelson (left hamstring) is supposed to throw a simulated game on Monday. He’s currently on the 15-day injured list.

Andrew Painter and Noah Song are out for longer stretches. Painter (UCL) likely won’t return for about eight-to-12 weeks. Song (back) was a longshot to play this season as a Rule 5 pick.

But the Phillies will need assistance at some point or their bullpen will start to get taxed. Through nine games, they’ve been called upon far too often and the results have been mixed.
