The internet was set ablaze after pictures surfaced of Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper sporting a new look ahead of their game against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

Harper shaved his iconic beard that has become a staple of his look, prompting many people to shockingly ask why he would get rid of it.

Well, it turns out there was a reason behind the freshly shaved face.

The Phillies slugger decided it was time for a new look after going 0-16 over his last 16 at-bats.

Baseball players are notoriously superstitious, so it's not abnormal for a player to change things up if they feel like it will get them out of a slump. Harper himself has done the exact same thing in the past, shaving his beard when he was slumping as a member of the Washington Nationals in 2018.

Unfortunately for the superstar and Philadelphia, it wasn't a quick fix as the lefty went 0-3 with a walk on Tuesday night. The Phillies were shut out by the Padres in their 8-0 loss as well, mustering only three hits all night.

It's a bad time for the offense to start going cold. After the loss, they now sit one-and-a-half games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the first place Wild Card spot.

The schedule won't be easier for Philadelphia later this month. They'll play the MLB's best team, Atlanta Braves, seven times in September and also face their division rival New York Mets seven times during the final stretch of the regular season.

The offense needs to find its rhythm again so they can close the year strong and put themselves in the best position to make a deep postseason run.
