Phillies Have Two Prospects Break Into Top 10 Rankings

Who are the newest players to break into the Philadelphia Phillies' top 10 prospect rankings?

The Philadelphia Phillies headed into the MLB trade deadline with a farm system that wasn’t very highly regarded.

Ranked near the bottom of baseball, Dave Dombrowski had to get creative when making trade proposals. He was able to bring in some talent to help the Major League roster, but the minor league pipeline was further diminished.

Right-handed pitcher Ramon Marquez was the headliner heading to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for second baseman Luis Arraez and right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian. He would have been No. 3 in the rankings done by Kiley McDaniel of ESPN and knocking on the door of being top 100.

However, with Marquez on the move and the graduations of right-handed pitcher Andrew Painter and center fielder Justin Crawford, there are a few new prospects who have popped up in the organization’s top 10.

The biggest riser is shortstop Juan Parra. Signed for $550,000 to begin his professional career, he was part of the 2026 international signing period class that also includes outfielder Francisco Renteria, who received $4 million from the Phillies.

Parra received some comparisons to Steele Hall and Daniel Pierce, players selected in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft, which speaks to just how much upside he possesses. He has made a solid first impression at the Dominican Summer League with a .292/.448/.444 slash line in 49 games and 171 at-bats.

10 doubles, two triples and four home runs have been hit. Parra has added seven stolen bases and has more walks, 42, than strikeouts, 34. Possessing an incredible work ethic and makeup, confidence is high that he can reach his ceiling.

The other player to break into the top 10 prospect rankings is someone Philadelphia fans already know well. Right-handed pitcher Alex McFarlane is now ranked No. 8, and people are clamoring to see him get a chance in the Big Leagues.

Alex McFarlane needs to be in the bullpen with the injury to Caleb Kilian.

He was blowing away opponents at Double-A Reading before getting his second short stint with the Major League team. This time, he was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he has continued to showcase his incredible stuff.

McFarlane has thrown 4.1 innings thus far with the IronPigs and has not allowed a run while striking out eight compared to two walks. When combined with his production at Double-A, he has a 2.06 ERA on the year in 35 innings with 47 strikeouts.

Opponents are hitting only .187 against him, and it feels as if it is only a matter of time until the Phillies give him a shot in The Show, especially with how taxed and injured their relief staff is currently.
