Do The Phillies Have A Deep Enough Bench?
Philadelphia Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski has been quite busy this offseason bolstering the roster.
Especially the pitching staff.
While the team looks solid heading into spring training, there’s one major question looming.
Is the bench good enough from top to bottom?
It’s a fair question.
The Phillies lost some depth when they dealt Matt Vierling and Nick Maton to the Detroit Tigers in a five-player deal largely for two-time All-Star pitcher Gregory Soto.
In addition to infielder Josh Harrison, the Phillies also boast infielder Edmundo Sosa, catcher Garrett Stubbs along with Dalton Guthrie, Kody Clemens, Jake Cave and Darick Hall.
Hall could be inserted as a designated hitter while Bryce Harper recovers from Tommy John surgery.
There will be other players competing for a spot in spring training for sure.
To reach their ultimate goal of winning the World Series, the Phillies will need a strong bench. Signing Harrison was terrific. Overall, it’s natural to wonder if the depth overall is good enough.
