Hoskins is Obvious Choice for Contract Extension with Phillies Following Season
Rhys Hoskins of the Philadelphia Phillies celebrated his birthday with a bomb in Spring Training. The six-year veteran has made quite an impact in Philly over the years. That said, his future in the city of Philadelphia remains uncertain.
Hoskins will be due a large contract at the end of the season if the Phillies wish to keep him in town. The estimated deal is four years, $60 million. This isn’t outrageous considering his offensive production with the Phillies, but some fans are still skeptical about bringing him back.
The main concern with Hoskins’ game is his defense. While it isn’t the worst, it can be the sole reason for a loss. Hoskins can also be one of the more inconsistent players in the MLB. Granted, baseball is a game of stretches, but Hoskins takes this to a whole new level.
Regardless of his streakiness, he is still a top-10 player at his position.
Hoskins left us with one of the most iconic moments in Philly sports over the last decade with his bat slam, playing a major role in their World Series run. The Phillies should absolutely prioritize re-signing Hoskins and keeping him around. An occasional defensive slip-up isn’t the end of the world, especially thinking of his offensive production. Hoskins has hit 29 or more home runs three times in his career, looking to go for 40 for the first time ever.
