Evan Carter, Wyatt Langford Lead Texas Rangers Minor League All-Stars
Evan Carter wasn’t just a vital piece for the Texas Rangers and their push to their first World Series title. He spent the entire season as the organization’s No. 1 prospect and was named to the Rangers’ organizational All-Stars by MiLB.com.
Carter produced while playing for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock before his call-up on Sept. 8, as he batted .288 with 13 home runs, 67 RBI, 79 runs, 81 walks and 26 stolen bases.
He started for the Rangers in left field for most of the postseason, eventually moving up to third in the batting order late in the playoffs. He is expected to be the Rangers’ starting left fielder in 2024 and will still, technically, be a rookie by service time.
Carter is still listed as the organization’s No. 1 prospect. The player most likely to eventually replace him in the top spot also made the team — outfielder Wyatt Langford.
Drafted fourth overall in July out of Florida, Langford breezed through the Rangers’ system, starting with their Arizona Complex League rookie team and finishing at Triple-A Round Rock.
Langford batted an incredible .360 in 44 games, with 10 home runs, 30 RBI, 36 runs, 36 walks, and 12 stolen bases. He may be the most advanced hitter in the system and has a chance to make the Rangers’ Opening Day roster in 2024.
Others named to the team include the Rangers Minor League Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.
First baseman Abimelec Ortiz was named the Rangers’ Hitter of the Year after he batted .294 at Class-A Down East and High-A Hickory. He hit 33 home runs and drove in 101 runs, led the minors in slugging (.619), ranked fourth in home runs and OPS (.990), and was named the South Atlantic League MVP.
Pitcher Jose Corniell earned the pitching award after going 8-3 with a 2.92 ERA with Down East and Hickory. His ERA, .194 opponent average, and 3.8 K/BB ratio led the system, and he was second with 119 strikeouts.
The other MiLB Rangers all-stars include catcher Liam Hicks, second baseman Justin Foscue, third baseman Davis Wendzel, shortstop Sebastian Walcott, outfielder J.P. Martinez, left-handed pitcher Mitch Bratt and relief pitcher Antoine Kelly, who was named the Rangers’ top minor-league relief pitcher in 2023.
