Texas Rangers Prospects Busy in Arizona Fall League

After one week, each of the Texas Rangers' prospects in the Arizona Fall League has seen action.

The Texas Rangers have several prospects that are playing in the Arizona Fall League, a collection of some of the best prospects in baseball.

After a week of action (through Oct. 8), here is how each Rangers prospect playing in the AFL has fared. All are playing for the Surprise Saguaros and out of the team’s Spring Training facility in Surprise, Ariz.

Cameron Cauley, SS/2B

The Rangers’ No. 13 overall prospect has played in five games so far for the Saguaros but hasn’t recorded a hit in 18 plate appearances. He has struck out 13 times and walked twice. He has scored two runs. The 20-year-old infielder reached High-A Hickory in 2023 and emerged as one of the organization’s more productive hitters.

Abimelec Ortiz, 1B/OF

The Rangers No. 14 overall prospect was named the organization’s Player of the Year after an incredible season, with most of it happening at Hickory. He emerged as one of the top power hitters in minor league baseball. Ortiz has played just two games so far, but he’s slashed .286/.444/.714/1.158 with one home run, three RBI, two strikeouts, two walks and two runs in just seven at-bats.

Mitch Bratt, LHP

The Rangers’ No. 17 overall prospect pitched for the Canadian national team in the World Baseball Classic and wrapped up his 2023 season at Hickory. Bratt has thrown just one inning so far, but he took a beating, giving up four hits and five earned runs, while walking three and striking out two. He has a 45.00 ERA.

Emiliano Teodo, RHP

The Rangers’ No. 22 overall prospect reached Hickory during his 2023 minor league season. He’s been effective in two games in the AFL, with a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. He has five strikeouts and no walks in three innings, while giving up just one hit.

Alejandro Osuna, OF

The Rangers’ No. 29 overall prospect has played in three games so far in the AFL and slashed .167/.286/.167/.453 in 12 at-bats. He has one RBI, one walk, two strikeouts and two run scored. Osuna, 20, also ended his 2023 minor league season at Hickory.

Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa, RHP

He’s off to a nice start in the AFL, as he has a 0.00 ERA in two appearances, during which he’s pitched two innings, given up one hit and struck out two. The Wailuku, Hawaii, native got as high as Hickory in 2023.

Zak Kent, RHP

Kent is a former Top 30 prospect who battled in injuries in 2023 but did throw at Triple-A Round Rock. He has started one game in the AFL, as he pitched three innings and gave up four hits and two earned runs. He also struck out four.

Justin Slaten, RHP

The right-hander from Longview, Texas, pitched at Frisco and Round Rock this season for the Rangers’ organization. He has pitched in two AFL games and hasn’t allowed a run or hit in 2 2/3 innings. He has also struck out five and walked none.
