Not An Off Day! Texas Rangers' Marcus Semien's Wife Gives Birth To Daughter

Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien spent part of his two off days with his wife Tarah for the birth of their daughter Amelie.

HOUSTON — Marcus Semien had more than one reason to be ecstatic that his Texas Rangers swept the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.

The sweep gave the Rangers' second baseman and lead-off hitter a chance to be there for the birth of his fourth child with his wife Tarah Murrey.

Baby Amelie Carol Anne Semien was born around midday Thursday after the couple decided to induce labor. Their due date was Oct. 21. Murrey told Semien she wanted to induce labor after the family hugged and briefly celebrated the Rangers moving on to the ALCS against the Houston Astros.

Game 1 is at 7:15 p.m. Sunday at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

"It's the first time we've had a child during a playoff run," Semien said. "I was happy we won our series so I could be there. This whole last couple of weeks of the season I was just fearing I wouldn't be able to be there because these games all mean so much."

The Semiens have three young boys who took a starring role during dad's press conference after he and Corey Seager signed with Texas in December 2021.

"He's a manager's dream," Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said of Semien, who played all 162 games during the regular season. "One spot I never had to think about was who was going to play there or who was going to hit there. He's just relentless with his work ethic and his ability to go out there every day."

Semien said mom and baby girl are doing great.

"Everybody is good, everybody is healthy and happy, and we're all blessed," he said. "I slept great last night. You're just worried about your wife. You just make sure your loved ones are ok."

"She's got protectors," Semien said of Amelie's big brothers. "They wanted to be all over her, and it's just a beautiful thing."

Semien lamented having to leave his wife and newborn but Murrey, who played volleyball at Cal, gave her blessing. Semien played baseball at Cal.

"This is what we signed up for. These are the most meaningful games of my life," he said. "These are the most meaningful days for our family so it's tough that I can't be there. But Tarah is a competitor. She's ready for me to have a good series here and get this win, and bring it back to Texas."
