The Texas Rangers will start Max Scherzer to open their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday at Globe Life Field.

Monday marks the start of a six-game, seven-day homestand for the Rangers, who will host the Milwaukee Brewers from Friday through Sunday.

If the Rangers stay on time, Scherzer (11-4, 3.88) would also start the finale against Milwaukee on Sunday.

Monday will be Scherzer’s third start with the Rangers. He is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts, giving up just four earned runs in 13 innings, while walking four and striking out 15.

He joined Nolan Ryan (1989) as the only other Rangers pitchers to throw at least 13 innings, give up four or fewer earned runs and strike out at least 15 in their first two outings with the team.

On Tuesday, the Rangers send out Jordan Montgomery (7-10, 3.38), the other starter acquired at the trade deadline.

Montgomery will make his third start with the Rangers, and he’s gone six innings in each of his first two. Against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, he was a hard-luck loser, throwing six innings, giving up seven hits and allowing just two runs. He walked one and struck out five. The Rangers lost 2-0.

Montgomery won his Rangers debut on Aug. 4 against the Miami Marlins, giving up six hits, two runs and a walk while striking out six.

Jon Gray (8-5, 3.65) is slated to start Wednesday’s finale with the Angels. He started the Rangers’ opener at the San Francisco Giants on Friday and he was excellent, throwing seven shutout innings while giving up two hits and striking out seven.

In his last 15 games, Gray is 7-4 with a 3.40 ERA.

The Angels have announced that Shohei Ohtani, who was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday against the Rangers, will be skipped due to arm fatigue. He will be available to hit for the Angels.

All three games of the Angels-Rangers series are set for 7:05 p.m.
