A Look Back: Texas Rangers 2023 Batting Leaders
Baseball fans have always kept their favorite season from their favorite team close to their hearts.
And for most Texas Rangers fans, that undoubtedly will be the 2023 World Series championship year.
Fans will cherish the memories for decades and pass those memories on to their children for years to come. The 2023 Rangers will be memorialized in the minds of fans, and all of the peaks and valleys it endured throughout their championship season.
To help you remember the roster that brought you the Rangers' first World Series title, we've compiled the team's leaders in nearly every major statistical category. Of course, MVP candidates Corey Seager and Marcus Semien are well-represented, but the championship roster received important contributions up and down the lineup.
The 2023 Rangers led the American League in nearly every offensive category, including batting average, run, hits, home runs and RBI.
These are the guys and the team that will be remembered forever in Arlington.
We'll take a look at the team's pitching leaders in a separate post.
Marcus Semien played every game (162 regular season, 17 postseason) and nearly every inning of the Rangers 2023 season.He was one of only four players to play all 162 regular-season games. First baseman Nathaniel Lowe was second on the team with 161 games. Adolis Garcia and Leody Taveras were next with 148 and 143 games.
Semien set an MLB record with 835 plate appearances (regular and postseason), surpassing the Phillies Lenny Dykstra's 1993 record of 833. Semien had 753 in the regular season and 82 (along with Corey Seager) in the postseason.
Corey Seager led the team with a .327 batting average, well above the second-closest teammate Marcus Semien (.276). Seager finished fifth in the majors and second in the A.L. in batting.
Semien led the A.L. with 185 hits, fifth-most in the majors. The next closest Ranger was Lowe with 163 hits.
Seager led the A.L. with 42 doubles, second in the majors, and two more than Semien and four more than Lowe.
Semien led with four of the club's 18 triples. Lowe and Leody Taveras each had three triples.
Adolis Garcia led with 39 homers, second only to Shohei Ohtani in the A.L. and tied for seventh-most in the majors. Seager was second on the club with 33.
Seager had a slight edge on Semien with 75 extra-base hits to Semien's 73. Garcia was third with 68. Seager was tied for second-most in the A.L. behind Ohtani.
Garcia led the club with 107 RBIs, seven more than Semien. Garcia was second in the A.L. and tied for sixth in the majors.
Semien led the A.L. with 122 runs scored, fifth-most in the majors. The second-closest Ranger was Garcia with 108 runs.
Travis Jankowski led the club with 19 stolen bases in 107 games, five more than Semien and Taveras.
Nathaniel Lowe was second in the A.L. and seventh in the majors with 93 walks. Semien was second on the club with 72.
Seager was intentionally walked nine times, tied for fourth in the A.L. He also had two more in the postseason. Jonah Heim and Nathaniel Lowe were each intentionally put on base twice in the regular season.
Seager was third in the A.L. and ninth in the majors with a .390 OBP, 30 points ahead of Lowe.
Only Shohei Ohtani had a higher slugging percentage than Seager, who led the club with a .623. Garcia finished sixth in the A.L. at .508. Both Semien and Josh Jung finished among the top 20 in the A.L.
Again, only Ohtani finished ahead of Seager in OPS. Seager led Texas with a 1.013. The next closest Rangers batter was Garcia at .836. Seager’s 1.013 OPS is the fifth-best in franchise history. Rafael Palmeiro holds the all-time mark of 1.050 in 1999.
Semien led the club with 320 total bases, 23 ahead of Seager. Semien was second in the A.L. behind Ohtani and seventh in the majors. Texas had seven hitters with 200 or more total bases, including Garcia (282), Lowe (258), Jung (223), Taveras (215), and Heim (200).
