Texas Rangers Activate Outfielder Adolis Garcia Before Monday's Game

The Texas Rangers activated Adolis Garcia just an hour before their series opener with the Boston Red Sox.

The Texas Rangers announced an hour before game time on Monday that they would activate outfielder Adolis García for Monday's game with the Boston Red Sox

García will start in right field and bat sixth. Earlier on Monday the Rangers activated third baseman Josh Jung from the injured list and put him in the starting lineup. He will play third base and bat fifth.

In corresponding moves, the Rangers sent catcher Sam Huff and infielder Jonathan Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock.

García, injured the right patella tendon in his knee while chasing a fly ball at the wall two weeks ago against Houston. He dodged a significant injury, with no tear. He was on the injured list with a strain and was eligible to be activated for the first time Monday.

He spent the Toronto leg of the road trip in Arlington ramping up his baseball activities. He joined the team in Cleveland to continue working with team trainers and coaches.

The Rangers hadn't ruled out García returning during this week’s homestand. A rehab rehab assignment was out of the question due to Triple-A affiliate Round Rock being on the road.

He was slashing .244/.322/.494/.816 with a career-high 34 home runs and 100 RBI before the injury. The Rangers called up their No. 1 prospect, Evan Carter, to help in the outfield during García’s absence.
