Texas Rangers BP Pitcher Roasted For Adolis Garcia Home Run Derby
It was a quick night for Texas Rangers slugger Adolis García.
The All-Star outfielder was eliminated in the first round of the MLB Home Run Derby at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Monday night.
And his best friend was responsible for the early exit.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena out-slugged García 24 homers to 17 to advance in the field of eight. Rangers third-base coach Tony Beasley threw to García, but was a little off his game.
García had to pass on multiple pitches from Beasley because they were out of the zone. Letting pitches go doesn't penalize Derby competitors but it allowed valuable seconds to tick off.
Each contestant has three minutes in the first round, plus a 30-second bonus and subsequent 30-second bonuses for each homer of 440 feet or more..
Social media smart alecs were roasting Beasley for his pitching performance with memes and jokes.
García, 30, needed eight homers in his bonus time to catch Arozarena, which proved to be too much to ask. García, among five Rangers starting Tuesday's All-Star game, leads the club with 23 homers.
García and Arozarena, 28, have been extremely close friends since their days coming up in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. García is the godfather to Arozarena's daughter.
The final stats on García:
- LONGEST HR: 438 feet
- HARDEST HR: 110 mph
- AVG. HR DISTANCE: 400 feet
- AVG. HR EXIT VELO: 102.3 mph
Arozarena reached the finals but lost to Vlad Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays.
