Texas Rangers All-Star Ranked Best in Baseball at Position
The Texas Rangers pay Corey Seager like he’s the best shortstop in baseball. Turns out MLB.com agrees.
The network unveiled its “Top 10 Shortstop Right Now” recently and Seager, who just wrapped up his second season with the Rangers, was No. 1.
Last year the site ranked Seager No. 4. To determine the rankings, the site used past player performances, offensive and defensive metrics, traditional baseball statistics and advanced metrics.
Seager is coming off a 2023 season in which he missed more than a month due to injuries but still put up the best numbers of his career and nearly won the AL batting title.
Seager slashed .327/.390/.623/1.013 with 42 doubles, 33 home runs and 96 RBI. He set a career high for doubles and RBI while matching his career high for home runs, set in 2022 during his first season with the Rangers. He was also voted to the American League All-Star Game starting lineup.
Led by Seager the Rangers won their first World Series. In the five-game victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, he slashed .286/.375/.762/1.137 with three home runs and six RBI and was named the World Series Most Valuable Player for the second time in his career. He earned the award in 2020 when he led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a championship.
After the season Seager finished second to Shohei Ohtani in AL MVP voting, won the AL Silver Slugger at shortstop and was a finalist for an AL Gold Glove. He was also named first-team All-MLB.
The rest of the Top 10 included the New York Mets’ Francisco Lindor, San Diego Padres’ Xander Bogaerts, Chicago Cubs’ Dansby Swanson, Philadelphia Phillies’ Trea Turner, Toronto Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette, Minnesota Twins’ Carlos Correa, Milwaukee Brewers’ Willy Adames, Kansas City Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. and Seattle Mariners’ J.P. Crawford.
