Rangers, Diamondbacks 'B' Game Notables
The Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks squared off in Surprise in a "B" game Tuesday, hours before Texas faced the Chicago Cubs is regular Cactus League action.
José Leclerc, Kumar Rocker, Yoshi Tsutsugo, Sam Huff and Justin Foscue were among the Rangers that played against Arizona. Foscue is one of the organization's top prospects.
Leclerc's one inning was a quick one. Despite dealing with neck stiffness, he threw 14 pitches with 10 for strikes. He struck out one batter, with his stuff looking sharp. Leclerc hasn't appeared in a spring game since Feb. 27 against the Cincinnati Reds.
Ricky Vanasco and Cody Bradford each threw two shutout innings without walking a batter. Bradford struck out four in his two innings, while Vanasco fanned one. Bradford was a part of the first group sent to minor-league camp, while Vanasco remains on the 40-man roster.
Kumar Rocker threw two uneven innings. He hit a batter in his first inning, allowed a two-run inside-the-park home run to Jordan Lawlar and walked a batter. He induced a double play to end the frame and threw a scoreless second inning, despite allowing a hit and hitting another batter. Rocker did strike out three.
Rangers prospect Chris Seise hit a home run to right and Sam Huff later drilled another to center. The Rangers drafted Seise in 2017 (first round and 29th overall). He spent the last three minor league seasons at High-A Hickory. He hit .246 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI last season with the Crawdads.
Huff had returned Monday after being out for four days with shoulder tightness. Huff said he felt good coming back.
"[Huff] is making himself into a hitter and not all power," Bruce Bochy said. "He's a little behind, but you see guys that have light-tower power. He's one of those guys that gets the ball in the air [and] gets out in front, and it doesn't have to be on the pull side; you know it's gone. That's how strong he is."
