Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was named one of three finalists for the American League Manager of the Year Award on Monday, with voting conducted by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The other finalists are Tampa Bay’s Kevin Cash and Baltimore’s Brandon Hyde.

Voting is based on regular season performance. Hyde led the Orioles to a 101-win season, the most of any AL team, while Cash led the Rays to the top Wild Card berth.

The Rangers beat both of them en route to their first World Series title, but that run won’t be accounted for in voting.

After a three-year absence after leaving the game in 2019, Bochy returned to the dugout in 2023 for his first season as Rangers manager, guiding Texas to the largest increase in regular season winning percentage from 2022-23 among MLB clubs.

The Rangers won 90 games, tied for the lead with the Houston Astros in the AL West but lost the tiebreaker and had to move into the Wild Card playoffs.

The Rangers won every road game they played in the postseason as Bochy won his fourth World Series as a manager. He led San Francisco to titles in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Despite Bochy’s incredible success as a manager, he has only one Manager of the Year award to his credit which came in 1996 when he led the Padres to a 21-game turnaround and a NL West title.

He was an NL finalist in 2012 and 2014, finishing third both times.

Winners will be announced on Nov. 13 (Rookie), Nov. 14 (Manager), Nov. 15 (Cy Young) and Nov. 16 (MVP)
