ARLINGTON, Texas —Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is day-to-day with a sprained right thumb, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Seager suffered the injury during Friday’s 11-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Globe Life Field.

Seager had X-rays after the injury and Bochy said those were negative.

“I’d put him at day-to-day right now,” Bochy said. “Obviously you hate to see that so hopefully he comes in feeling better tomorrow.”

Seager appeared to do tweak something while sliding into second base to try and leg out a double in the eighth inning. While replay officials were reviewing the play, one in which Seager was ultimately deemed safe, you could see Seager grimace as he slid across the bag. Another replay view showed him grimacing after he got up.

Seager went back to the dugout during the review, and after Seager was deemed safe Josh Smith cane in as a pinch-runner and played shortstop in the ninth inning.

Seager missed 31 games with a left hamstring strain that he suffered on a similar play against the Kansas City Royals on April 12. During that time the Rangers went 19-12 and Ezequiel Duran received regular playing time at shortstop for the first time at the Major League level.

When Seager returned, he was on fire and managed to earn an All-Star Game starting nod despite missing a month’s worth of games. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored on Friday to push his batting average to .350 for the season. He also hit his 15th home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Entering Friday’s game he had the most RBI, doubles and hits of any player in the American League since his return from the injured list on May 17.
