Rangers 'Discussing' Reunion With Former Starter Lynn

The Rangers traded Lance Lynn to the Chicago White Sox before the 2021 season, but he may be on Texas' radar for this trade deadline.

The Texas Rangers could be looking at re-acquiring starting pitcher Lance Lynn via trade, reports The Dallas Morning News.

Lynn started for the Chicago White Sox against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, which would likely be his last start before the Aug. 1 trade deadline, especially if he is moved.

The report stated that the Rangers are “discussing a reunion tour” amid other rumors.

There are rumors the White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays are exploring a trade, along with the Los Angeles Dodgers. But both teams are reportedly on a “no-trade” list that Lynn has in his contract, a list of 10 teams that includes the San Diego Padres, Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Rays and Blue Jays.

It does not include the Rangers, whom Lynn played for in 2019 and '20 before the Rangers traded him to the White Sox for a package of players that included current starter Dane Dunning.

With the Rangers, Lynn was 22-14 with a 3.57 ERA. He made his second All-Star team with the White Sox in 2021, when he went 11-6.

Entering Wednesday’s start, the 36-year-old was 6-9 with a 6.18 ERA. He leads the Majors in earned runs allowed and home runs allowed. But he is also striking out more than 10 hitters per nine innings.

The Rangers have lost two expected starters this season in Jacob deGrom and Jake Odorizzi. Both Andrew Heaney and Martín Pérez have been uneven this season. Heaney hasn’t pitched six innings since late May and Pérez has given up 18 home runs and his ERA is two points higher than last year’s 2.89.
