First MiLB Homer for Texas Rangers Prospect Wyatt Langford Felt 'Pretty Good'
The first time is usually the best. Or maybe it just feels that way.
Texas Rangers first-round pick Wyatt Langford drilled his first home run a minor-league game Wednesday for the High-A Hickory Crawdads. The two-run shot to center was part of a perfect 3-for-3 night that included three RBI.
"Any time you hit a home run, it feels pretty good, but that one felt a little better,” Langford said, according to MLB.com. “I was looking for a slider the whole at-bat and jumped on it when I got one.”
Technically, it’s Wyatt’s second professional homer since the Rangers selected the former University of Florida standout with the fourth overall pick in last month’s draft. Wyatt also went yard during his three-game stint with the Arizona Complex League rookie team.
Since his quick promotion to Hickory – Langford skipped Low-A Down East – he’s come out swinging. The 21-year-old outfielder has hits in six of seven games going into Friday, compiling a slash line of .400/.545/.800 with Hickory.
“I feel like I’m seeing the ball pretty well,” Langford told the website. “Every time I go out there, I feel really comfortable. I have a lot of momentum going right now. So I'm just trying to keep it going.”
Not only does Langford have power, he’s got speed. He has two triples already, including his first professional hit.
Crawdads manager Chad Comer is impressed with Langford’s polished approach.
“He goes up there and really manages his at-bats well,” Comer told MLB.com. “He hunts pitches that he's gonna drive and he does a good job of that. Since he’s been here, he’s continued, day in and day out, to turn in good at-bats. And I think it's just a testament to the type of hitter that he is and is going to be.”
