Astros Opening Day Ticket Prices Skyrocket

The defending World Series champions open in the season in Houston on March 30 against the Chicago White Sox.

There’s at least one good thing about the Texas Rangers not winning the World Series, especially when it comes to your pocketbook. Ticket prices aren’t insane in Arlington.

Houston, well, is another matter.

The Astros, fresh off their second championship in five years, put their single-game tickets on sale Friday. According to the Houston Chronicle, it’ll cost Astros fans a “figurative arm and leg” to get into Minute Maid Park on Opening Day.

The most affordable ticket for the March 30 matchup with the Chicago White Sox at Minute Maid Park, per the Chronicle, was listed at $136 on the MLB website. Some seats, the paper added, were as high as $458 each.

The Rangers, in contrast, have yet to make single-game tickets available for Opening Day, March 30 against the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies at Globe Life Field.

There’s obviously a price to winning big in Texas, and, so far, Rangers fans haven’t had to foot the bill at the box office. But with a revamped pitching staff led by big-money ace Jacob deGrom and three-time World Series-winning manager Bruce Bochy leading the Rangers, that day might be coming.

Much could change depending on what happens to the Rangers’ local television partner, Bally’s Sports Southwest, which could be headed into bankruptcy. Bally’s also broadcasts the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars in the DFW market.

The Astros also face uncertainty with Warner Brothers Discovery intending to pull out of business of Regional Sports Networks. WBD’s RSN networks, branded AT&T SportsNet, have the rights to the Astros, among other pro teams.
