Oooof! Texas Rangers All-Star Josh Jung Injured Minutes After Spring Training Arrival
SURPRISE, Ariz. — Just hours after arriving at the Texas Rangers spring training complex, Josh Jung was limping off the field with an injury.
The All-Star third baseman sustained left calf discomfort while taking ground balls Friday morning and will have an MRI to survey the issue. Updates from the club on his status will be released as they become available.
Position players aren't due to report until Monday morning, but Jung is one of the few to arrive early, along with Travis Jankowski.
Jung has been plagued with injuries for much of his first five seasons with the club.
A year ago, he missed five weeks after fracturing his left thumb on a ground ball during a game last August. He returned early and played the entire postseason with a swollen left thumb. In fact, it was still swollen in January.
Jung missed much of his 2021 minor league season with a stress fracture in his foot.
In 2022, he had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder but made his MLB debut with the Rangers as a September call-up.
The injury occurred less than an hour after speaking with the media upon arriving at the team's clubhouse. Jung spoke of the team-first mentality the Rangers had en route to the 2023 World Series title.
"When we got in the postseason, everybody just wanted to win, and it was a collective," he said. "That's all we're trying to do. And no matter what your role is, just trying to execute to the best of your ability in that role, and it worked out for us."
