Why Texas Rangers All-Star Josh Jung's Baseball Card Is Selling For $10,000
ARLINGTON — The hunt is on!
Baseball card collectors have a new rarity to track down after Texas Rangers All-Star Josh Jung confirmed on social media that at least a few of his signed Topps cards in circulation include his hand-drawn doodling.
The rookie third baseman from San Antonio and Texas Tech responded to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing a signed, defaced Jung trading card selling for $10,000 on eBay.
"I thought it would be fun to throw a little Easter egg out into the hobby," Jung said in the post. "I'm glad it finally surfaced! Won't be the last."
The 2023 Topps Heritage Real One rookie card includes Jung-drawn graffiti in blue Sharpie, including a pencil-thin mustache and glasses. Young also added his signature and No. 6 to the base of the card and a "Go Rangers!" in the top left corner.
In the top right corner, a 1/1 shows that it's one-of-a-kind.
Although no such card could be found in a search on eBay — perhaps someone already bought it? — it's possible the card or another doodle version could eventually show up on the reseller site.
Non-doodled versions of the signed card are listed between $96 and $300 on the auction site.
Jung finished fourth in American League Rookie of the Year voting despite missing a month with a broken finger. He helped lead the Rangers to their first World Series title.
