Texas Rangers Promoting Top Prospect Evan Carter
Texas Rangers No. 1 prospect Evan Carter will be promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, per multiple reports. On his birthday, no less.
The Rangers have not formally announced the promotion. The transaction is not listed at MiLB.com and Carter’s MiLB.com page still has the outfielder with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders.
Round Rock starts a series at Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
Carter is MLB.com’s No. 8 overall prospect and has been the Rangers’ No. 1 prospect all season. He turns 21 years old on Tuesday.
Carter has spent the season with Frisco, where he slashed .284/.411/.451/.862 with 15 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs and 62 RBI. He walked 74 times and struck out 103 times. He played three games at the Arizona Complex League during an injury rehab assignment in June.
Last season he spent most of his 2022 with the High-A Hickory Crawdads, where he batted .295 and was named the Rangers’ Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America. He was promoted to Frisco late that season and took part in the RoughRiders’ run to the Texas League title.
In 2021 he spent his first professional season with the Down East Wood Ducks.
For his minor league career he is slashing .282/.409/.462/.871 with 45 doubles, 17 triples, 27 home runs and 149 RBI in 238 games.
The Rangers selected him in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Elizabethton, Tenn.
