Texas Rangers Promoting Two Top Prospects to Triple-A Round Rock
The Texas Rangers will reportedly promote both outfielder Wyatt Langford and pitcher Jack Leiter to the Triple-A Round Rock Express for the final week of the regular season starting Tuesday.
Both highly-touted prospects have starred recently for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders.
The Rangers drafted Langford out of the University of Florida. Since July, he has played with their Arizona Complex League Rookie club, the High-A Hickory Crawdads and Frisco.
He has been excellent at every stop.
His slash numbers are eye-popping. That includes his 12 games at Frisco, where he slashed .405/.519/.762/1.281.
For the minor league season, he is a combined .359/.471/.697/1.168 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI. He hit nine of those 12 home runs at Hickory (five) and Frisco (four).
Langford is the organization’s No. 2 prospect.
As for Leiter, who is the No. 5 prospect in the organization and the team’s first-round pick in 2021, he has surged since he re-joined the RoughRiders after two developmental list stints to work on mechanics and to manage a walks issue that has limited his progress.
Since his return, Leiter has made four starts and limited teams to three or fewer hits in each game. He has a 3.31 ERA with 25 strikeouts and, more importantly, just four walks.
In his last start on Saturday against Amarillo, he struck out nine over five innings in a 4-3 win over Amarillo.
MLB reported that Leiter won’t be activated initially. As he pitched on Saturday, he wouldn’t be available to throw until mid-week.
Round Rock will spend its final week of the season in Tacoma. The Express lead the Pacific Coast League’s East Division.
MLB.com reported the promotions. The Express are off Monday.
