Rangers Prospect Justin Foscue Enjoying Hot Spring Start
Texas Rangers infield prospect Justin Foscue is off to a great start this spring, especially at the plate.
He was the only Rangers hitter with a home run in each of the Rangers’ first two games. Though both were losses, Foscue continues to impress the team.
He deposited his home run on Saturday against Kansas City right into the visitor’s bullpen at Surprise Stadium.
Foscue ended last season as the Rangers’ No. 5 prospect per MLB.com. According to ESPN and The Athletic, he remains among the top prospects in the organization.
The Rangers took him in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft at No. 14 overall, making him the third-highest Mississippi State player ever taken after Will Clark (No. 2) and Hunter Renfroe (No. 13). The Rangers paid Foscue a $3.25 million signing bonus.
He had a great season at Double-A Frisco last season. He played in 101 games and batted .288/.367/.483/.961 with 60 runs, 31 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs and 81 RBI. He walked 45 times, struck out 66 times, stole three bases and was caught stealing twice.
He played most of his games at second base (76), but also played third base (12) and was charged with nine errors total.
Foscue’s biggest issue right now isn’t his development. It is his path to the Majors. As a middle infielder, the Rangers have large contracts committed to shortstop Corey Seager and second baseman Marcus Semien. Even though Foscue played third base last season, that path is blocked by another first-round pick, Josh Jung.
That could make Foscue potential trade bait of the Rangers want to improve their MLB roster, or they can keep him in their system and allow him to continue to develop.
