Texas Rangers Star Prospect Wyatt Langford Named Minor League Player Of Month
Wyatt Langford might not be making an impact for the Texas Rangers on their run to the American League Championship Series, but he continues to rack up praise in the minors.
Langford was named the Texas League Player of the Month during his brief stay with Double-A Frisco. In 12 games with the Rough Riders, the former Florida slugger slashed .405/.519/.762 and posted a 1.280 OPS.
He also finished with four home runs, three doubles, 10 RBI and drew 11 walks against seven strikeouts. Langford's hot stay with the Rough Riders earned him a call-up to Triple-A Round Rock.
Drafted fourth overall in July, Langford's tear through the minors is a positive sign that Texas drafted a player with All-Star potential. He's already on his fourth team since helping the Gators reach the College World Series earlier this summer.
In three games with Rangers’ Arizona Complex League, Langford slashed .385/.429/.846. In his 24 games with High-A Hickory, he slashed .333/.453/.644 with five home runs and 15 RBI.
Ever since his call-up to the Express, Langford has continued to produce, slashing .368/.538/.526 in five games. He also has drawn six walks and totaled three doubles in 19 plate appearances.
In 44 total minor league games, Langford slashed .360./480/.677 with an OPS of 1.157 and 10 home runs, 17 doubles and a 34-to-36 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He's also scored 36 runs and notched 30 RBI.
Listed by MLB Pipeline as the No. 13 prospect in baseball, Langford could make his way onto next April's Opening Day lineup with a surging spring training. He'll head into the offseason working on his swing that'll send him to the majors.
