Another Productive Rehab Game for Texas Rangers Shortstop Corey Seager

Corey Seager played his second game with the Texas Rangers' Double-A affiliate in the hope of returning from injury soon.

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager made his second appearance with Double-A Frisco on Friday in the continuation of his rehab assignment from his injured hamstring.

Seager hit second in the order for the second straight game, but this time he was the designated hitter. Seager played five innings at shortstop on Thursday before exiting the game, which was the plan.

Seager flew out to left in his first at-bat on Friday. In the fourth inning, Seager led off the inning with a single to center. One of the Rangers’ top infield prospects, Luisangel Acuña, singled to move Seager to second base. Seager and Acuña moved 90 feet after a Dustin Harris walk.

Seager, Acuña and Harris scored on a Thomas Saggese grand slam that tied the game at 4-4.

Seager returned to the plate to lead off the fifth inning and lined out.

He finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. The RoughRiders pinch hit for Seager in the eighth, with Trevor Hauver hitting a solo home run.

Seager’s first game on Thursday resulted in a 1-for-3 outing, but his one hit was a two-RBI double down the right field line that gave the RoughRiders a 2-0 lead at the time. Frisco ended up losing the game, 8-6.

The RoughRiders continued their series with the Wichita Wind Surge, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Seager’s second appearance coincided with a start by one of the Rangers’ top pitching prospects, Owen White.

Wichita won the game 13-5.

The Rangers are in Oakland for four game through Sunday. It’s not clear how many more games Seager will play with the RoughRiders, but the Rangers are hopeful he rejoin the team when they return from the West Coast.

The Rangers host Atlanta for three games, starting Monday. Seager is eligible to return from the injured list when the Rangers are ready to activate him.

Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring. Seager has suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.

Before Seager was hurt, he was batting .359 with four doubles, a homer and seven runs.
