Texas Rangers Sign 6th-Round Pick to Above-Slot Deal: Report
The Texas Rangers have reportedly signed their sixth-round pick, Caden Scarborough, on the same day the Rangers signed their first-round pick, Wyatt Langford, on Tuesday.
Scarborough reportedly signed for $515,000, which is above the slot value for the No. 171 pick, which is $339,400. MLB.com reported the signing.
The St. Cloud, Fla., native went to Harmony High School and was committed to play baseball for Dallas Baptist.
The 18-year-old went 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA and 70 strikeouts across 38 1/3 innings. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound right-handed pitcher led the Longhorns to the 2023 Orange Belt Conference Championship and was named an Orlando Sentinel All-Area honorable mention.
The Rangers have not officially announced the signing, but Scarborough would be the second Rangers draft pick to agree to terms.
Langford signed for $8 million on Tuesday, tied for the fifth-largest signing bonus in MLB history.
The Rangers have until 4 p.m. central July 25 to sign all of its selections. Texas has a $9.925 million bonus pool for its drafts selections.
