Rangers Spring Training Preview: Dustin Harris
InsidetheRangers.com previews every player on the Texas Rangers 40-man roster heading into Spring Training in Surprise, Arizona.
OF Dustin Harris
2022: Harris played last season for Double-A Frisco in 2022, but a wrist injury probably derailed a chance for a promotion to Triple-A Round Rock. His play was certainly worth the consideration. He was one of the best outfielders in the system last year, flashing a consistent bat with power and speed, both in the field and on basepaths. He was an organizational All-Star in 2021, and he could have been more competitive for that honor in 2022 without the injury. He did play in the MLB Futures Game during the All-Star Break alongside top 30 pitching prospect Jack Leiter.
Harris batted .257/.346/.471/.817 in 85 games. He scored 58 runs with 16 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs and 66 RBI. He walked 42 times and struck out 74 times. He stole 19 bases and was caught stealing five times.
Contract Status: Harris has not played in the Majors. He was moved to the 40-man roster in the offseason to protect him from the Rule V Draft.
In Surprise: Harris has the ability to play in the Majors. Left field is open and there are plenty of candidates. Major League camp is going to give him a chance to impress manager Bruce Bochy and get a head start on a promotion to Round Rock. He’s probably a year away from being a call-up. But depending upon how he plays and how the competition at left field progresses, Harris is worth keeping tabs on this spring.
