Texas Rangers Top Prospect Dazzles in Triple-A Debut
Texas Rangers No. 1 prospect Evan Carter made his Triple-A Round Rock debut on Tuesday when the Express faced Oklahoma City.
The news of Carter’s promotion broke Monday and was formally announced Tuesday, which just happened to be his 21st birthday. Along with being the Rangers’ No. 1 prospect, he is MLB.com’s No. 8 overall prospect.
Carter did not disappoint in his debut. He batted second in the order and played center field. He went 4-for-6 with one run and one RBI.
In his first at-bat with the Express, Carter beat out a ground ball for a single.
Carter later singled and drove in Eiler Hernandez in the second, lined out to left field in the fourth , singled in the fifth , singled in the seventh and struck out looking in the ninth.
Carter has spent the season with Frisco, where he slashed .284/.411/.451/.862 with 15 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs and 62 RBI. He walked 74 times and struck out 103 times. He played three games at the Arizona Complex League during an injury rehab assignment in June.
Last season he spent most of his 2022 with the High-A Hickory Crawdads, where he batted .295 and was named the Rangers’ Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America. He was promoted to Frisco late that season and took part in the RoughRiders’ run to the Texas League title.
In 2021 he spent his first professional season with the Down East Wood Ducks.
For his minor league career he is slashing .282/.409/.462/.871 with 45 doubles, 17 triples, 27 home runs and 149 RBI in 238 games.
The Rangers selected him in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Elizabethton, Tenn.
