ARLINGTON, Texas —Texas Rangers rookie Evan Carter has been a revelation for the team this postseason and has earned the confidence of this teammates and manager Bruce Bochy alike.

Carter played left field and batted third in Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night at Globe Life Field.

In doing so, per Stathead, Carter became the second youngest player in Major League history to start and bat third in Game 1 of a World Series at 21 years and 59 days old.

The only player younger? Hall of Famer and New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle, who did it at 20 years and 347 days old in Game 1 of the 1952 World Series.

Carter’s first at-bat ended up being an RBI double to the right-field gap to score Corey Seager and give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Texas was up 2-0 at the end of the first after Adolis García drove in Carter.

Before the game, Inside the Rangers asked manager Bruce Bochy if he could guess which player was younger than Carter. He guessed a Yankee, just not the right Yankee. His guess was Joe DiMaggio, another Yankees legend and Hall of Famer.

Carter, who was called up in early September after an injury to García, was batting .308 with a home run, six doubles, five RBI, nine walks, eight runs and three stolen bases this postseason.

The Rangers’ No. 1 prospect has reached base in all 13 of the postseason games he’s played as of Game 1, which is the longest on-base streak in postseason history for a player 21 years or younger. The high was Miguel Cabrera, who did it in 10 games for Florida in 2003.

His seven postseason doubles are also best among MLB players 21 or younger in a postseason, as he replaced Cody Bellinger, who had four with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.

In his one month with the Rangers in the regular season, he batted .306 with five home runs and 12 RBI.
