Watch: Texas Rangers First-Round Pick Langford Shines in First Hickory At-Bat

Wyatt Langford came up with a hit in his first at-bat with the Texas Rangers' High Class-A affiliate in Hickory.

Texas Rangers first-round pick Wyatt Langford tripled in his first career at-bat at High Class-A Hickory on Wednesday night, as he took his next step toward the Major Leagues.

The Rangers transferred Langford from the rookie-league Arizona Complex League Rangers, where he played just three games.

On Wednesday he batted third and played left field. He finished 1-for-4 with an run and an RBI.

His triple scored Cameron Cauley and gave Hickory a 2-0 lead over Aberdeen. Langford eventually scored as part of a five-run first inning.

Langford struck out in the second inning, grounded out to the pitcher in the fifth inning and struck out again in the seventh inning.

Langford was promoted to High Class-A Hickory after three games with the Arizona Complex League Rangers less than a month after the Rangers drafted him out of the University of Florida.

Langford, a right-handed hitting outfielder, made an immediate impact in the ACL. In three games he batted .385 (5-for-13) with a 1.275 OPS. In his last game on Monday, he went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double and his first professional home run, which came in the ninth inning. He also drove in three runs.

As a sophomore at Florida he batted .356/.447/.719 while matching the school record with 26 home runs.

As a junior he batted .373/.498/.784 with 21 home runs and 56 extra-base hits.

While at the Men’s College World Series in June, he batted .375 with seven extra-base hits, three home runs and nine RBI, including a six-RBI outing in Game 2 of the College World Series final against LSU.
