Watch Texas Rangers Top Prospect Blast Homer In Second Consecutive Game
For the second consecutive game, Texas Rangers top prospect Wyatt Langford hit a home run, one that sparked a six-run third inning against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
Langford hit his first spring training home run on Friday against the San Francisco Giants, clobbering a pitch an estimated 440 feet for a two-run home run to right-center.
Langford was batting in the second spot on Saturday and singled in his first at-bat and was thrown out at second as Nathaniel Lowe grounded into a double play.
He batted third in the third inning Saturday, with Justin Foscue at second base after a single and after Evan Carter moved him to second on a flyout to center.
Langford pulled a second-pitch fastball into to the left field seats to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
That seemed to jump-start the Rangers. Lowe doubled and scored on Leody Taveras’ triple. Two batters later, Jared Walsh drove in Taveras with a two-run home run to make it 5-0.
Matt Duffy doubled and later scored on Josh Smith’s double to wrap up the Rangers’ third-inning scoring.
After Langford grounding into a double play in the fourth, his was spring batting average was sitting at .313.
Langford, less than a year into his pro career, is trying to play his way onto the Rangers’ 26-man opening-day roster against the Chicago Cubs on March 28 at Globe Life Field.
After the Rangers drafted Langford No. 4 overall, he started his professional career in Surprise, Ariz., with the Rangers’ Complex League team. From there, he went to High-A Hickory, Double-A Frisco and Round Rock and slashed .360/.480/.677/1.157 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI.
