World Series Game 1 Win at 'Top' of All-Time List for Texas Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy
ARLINGTON, Texas – Best game in Bruce Bochy history?
Game 1 of the 2023 World Series was certainly one for the ages, with the dramatics of late-inning home runs by Corey Seager and Adolis García, along with a majestic performance by the bullpen.
Add it up and it’s an instant classic 6-5 victory for the Texas Rangers over the Arizona Diamondbacks before a record crowd at Globe Life Field. The Rangers, in search of the first world championship, lead the best-of-seven 1-0.
For a manager with three World Series titles, where does it rank?
“It’s right there at the top,” Bochy said. “It was a great game, entertaining game, great ball game. We had some chances out there, couldn’t quite get that big hit. But late we did. We get the big home run.”
Bochy praised Leody Taveras for drawing a walk to lead off the ninth, which set up Seager’s game-tying blast. García won it in the 11th with an opposite-field walk-off shot to right.
Bochy was in no place in the late hours Friday night to compare this Fall Classic contest with others on his resume.
“You know what, I’d have to think,” he said. “There’s some big games we had, but I can think of a couple. But like I said, that’s right up there amongst the rest of them, the top ones I had.”
Maybe Game 2 makes the list, too. The second game of the World Series is Saturday night back at Globe Life Field. Texas is sending Jordan Montgomery to the mound opposite Merrill Kelly for Arizona. First pitch is scheduled for 7:03 p.m.
