Angels May Target Ex-Red Sox All-Star After Losing Superstar Shohei Ohtani
The Los Angeles Angels have a lot of work to do.
Los Angeles was home to arguably the best player in baseball over the last six seasons in two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani but now he will be playing elsewhere in 2024. Ohtani recently signed a creative deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the next 10 seasons.
The Angels now need to find a way to fill the designated hitter position and luckily for them, there are some intriguing players available. One slugger who could be a fit is former Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, and Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
"The Angels now have an Ohtani-sized hole to fill at designated hitter, so expect them to pursue a hitter (J.D. Martinez?) soon," Feinsand said. "The (San Francisco Giants), even after adding Lee, seem likely to pursue more talent this offseason as they look to get back to the top of the (National League West). The (Chicago Cubs) also made a bid for Ohtani, and Chicago is expected to make some moves before all is said and done, possibly a reunion with Cody Bellinger."
Martinez spent the 2023 season with the Dodgers and was an All-Star but now is looking for a new home because Ohtani will be holding the position for years to come. The six-time All-Star launched 33 home runs and drove in 103 runs last season for the Dodgers in 113 games played.
The three-time Silver Slugger Award winner may not have as much pop in his bat as Ohtani, but he certainly would help the Angels.
