Braves Reportedly Linked To Red Sox Slugger In Potential Deadline Reunion Deal
There are sure to be plenty of moving parts ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.
One team that's certainly in an interesting spot as the second half of the season kicks off is the Boston Red Sox. Boston entered the All-Star break as one of the hottest teams in baseball with five straight wins and eight victories in its last 10 games. Although the Red Sox have been hot, they still are on the outside looking in for a Wild Card spot and currently are two games behind Toronto Blue Jays for the final spot.
The next few weeks will determine whether the Red Sox will look to buy, sell, or some hybrid of the two. No matter what they decide to do, there's sure to be some moves and one player who could be on the move is outfielder Adam Duvall and one club that reportedly could make sense as a trade partner is the Atlanta Braves, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
"If the Braves do mane moves, expect them to be smaller in nature," Bowden said. "They could use a right-handed-hitting left fielder with plus defense, so perhaps a reunion with Adam Duvall makes sense if they can strike a deal with the Red Sox."
The one-time All-Star could be on the outs in Boston due to the ascension of speedy outfielder Jarren Duran and Atlanta could make perfect sense. Duvall already has had two stints with the Braves. The slugger was traded to Atlanta during the 2018 season and he spent three seasons with the club before signing with the Miami Marlins as a free agent ahead of the 2021 campaign. He then was traded back to Atlanta during the 2021 season and helped lead the club to a World Series title. He played with the club in 2022 as well and signed with Boston as a free agent this past offseason.
Duvall was one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball to kick off the 2023 season, but a wrist injury forced him to miss time and he has struggled since returning to the field. He's found his name in trade rumors lately and with Duran still shining for the club, his days in Boston could be numbered. If Atlanta offers a solid return, Boston should consider a move no matter what route the club decides to take at the deadline to give Duran even more time.
