Dodgers Could Target Ex-Red Sox Pitcher To Bolster Rotation According To Insider
One former member of the Boston Red Sox could end up landing with the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason.
Former Red Sox pitcher James Paxton is a free agent after a solid season and likely will have a solid market. Paxton struggled with injuries over the last few years but made his most appearances since 2019 last season. The 35-year-old compiled a 4.50 ERA across 19 starts. Paxton was one of the Red Sox's best starters for much of the season but then injuries slowed him down and hurt his overall numbers.
Although this is the case, he is a very solid rotation depth piece. Los Angeles -- like many clubs -- are looking to add to the rotation and could target Paxton, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
"Free-agent targets: Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Sonny Gray, Michael Wacha, Eduardo Rodriguez, Seth Lugo, Lucas Giolito, Jack Flaherty, Kenta Maeda, James Paxton, Josh Hader, Nick Martinez, J.D. Martinez, Jorge Soler, and Michael Brantley," according to Bowden. "Injuries and off-field issues have depleted the Dodgers' starting pitching over the past few years, so despite having a stocked farm system of young starters, they are in dire need of adding proven pitchers to their rotation this offseason.
Los Angeles has been one of the best teams in baseball over the last decade and likely will be again in 2024. The Dodgers have more work to do this offseason than in prior years but still will be solid next year. Landing someone like Paxton would be a solid start to shoring up the rotation and it wouldn't be too surprising to see them do so.
