Dodgers Reportedly Sign Polarizing Ex-Red Sox Hurler After Roller Coaster Stint With Club
One former member of the Boston Red Sox reportedly has found himself a new club.
Longtime Boston relief pitcher and 2018 World Series champion Ryan Brasier reportedly has agreed to a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.
"The 35-year-old pitcher - who was released by the Red Sox on May 21 - confirmed to WEEI.com that he has signed a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers," Bradford said."
Brasier certainly was a polarizing figure in the Red Sox's bullpen over his six years with the team. The 35-year-old began his MLB career with the Los Angeles Angels in 2013 and didn't pitch again in the big leagues until joining the Red Sox in 2018. Brasier impressed and was a dependable arm in the Boston bullpen as the club won the 2018 World Series.
Since 2018 the righty had a roller coaster of a time with Boston. At times Brasier was impressive as shown through his 3.96 ERA in 2020 or 1.50 ERA in 2021 -- although in a small sample size -- but at times he also struggled. Brasier compiled an 0-3 record in 2022 while pitching to a 5.78 ERA in 68 appearances and struggled out the gate in 2023 while compiling a 7.29 ERA in 20 appearances before being released by the Red Sox.
With Los Angeles, he will have the chance to make his way back up to the big leagues with solid play at the minor league level. The Dodgers have been a common location for past members of the Red Sox to land so it's not too surprising to see Brasier is the latest to make the move to Los Angeles. He likely won't play a large role with the Dodgers, but if he can find his form in the minors maybe we will see him at the big league level again this season.
